Acute effect of green tea catechins on uric acid metabolism after alcohol ingestion in Japanese men
نویسندگان
چکیده
Alcohol consumption is associated with hyperuricemia and gout. Previous studies have indicated a role for green tea catechins in uric acid (UA) metabolism. This study aimed to elucidate the acute effect of terms enhancing urinary excretion UA xanthine/hypoxanthine (Xa/HX; precursors) after alcohol ingestion. In randomized crossover study, ten healthy Japanese subjects consumed test meals, including distilled spirit (Sh?ch?) water (SW) or Sh?ch? catechin-rich (SC), each containing 20 g alcohol. The SC contained 617 mg catechin total. Serum urine Xa/HX concentrations were measured. Blood samples collected 2.5 h, between 0 5 h consuming meal. Urine excretions significantly higher group than SW (UA: SW, 0.45 ± 0.08; SC, 0.52 0.09; Xa/HX: 0.08 0.04; 0.16 0.05 mg/kg/h). clearance (CUA) fractional (FEUA) tended increase more (CUA: 7.76 2.14; 8.75 2.23 mL/min/1.73 m2; FEUA: 6.08 1.36; 6.64 1.42%). No significant differences serum observed two groups. It was concluded that can enhance Xa/HX, even though ingested. UMIN000040076. Antiviral effect of catechins in green tea on influenza virus.
Polyphenolic compound catechins ((-)-epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), (-)-epicatechin gallate (ECG) and (-)-epigallocatechin (EGC)) from green tea were evaluated for their ability to inhibit influenza virus replication in cell culture and for potentially direct virucidal effect. Among the test compounds, the EGCG and ECG were found to be potent inhibitors of influenza virus replication in MDCK ...
متن کاملBlood and urine levels of tea catechins after ingestion of different amounts of green tea by human volunteers.
The inhibitory activity of tea against tumorigenesis has been demonstrated in many animal models and has been suggested by some epidemiological studies. Such activity has generally been attributed to tea catechins. To understand the bioavailability of tea catechins in humans, we gave 18 individuals different amounts of green tea and measured the time-dependent plasma concentrations and urinary ...
متن کاملEffect of acute green tea extract ingestion on fat oxidation during exercise in women
Background Green tea and green tea extract (GTE) consumption is associated with health, exercise performance, fat oxidation and weight loss owing to studies reporting positive effects accompanying chronic supplementation (>30 d). While the overall literature surrounding GTE is equivocal, little data exists examining the effects of acute supplementation prior to exercise (< 24 hr). The primary a...
متن کاملSmoking, alcohol drinking, green tea consumption and the risk of esophageal cancer in Japanese men.
BACKGROUND Although smoking and alcohol drinking are established risk factors of esophageal cancer, their public health impact is unclear. Furthermore, the effect of green tea is controversial. METHODS The present study was based on a pooled analysis of two prospective cohort studies. A self-administered questionnaire about health habits was distributed to 9,008 men in Cohort 1 and 17,715 men...
متن کاملEffects of green tea catechins on the pro-inflammatory response after haemorrhage/resuscitation in rats.
Plant polyphenols, i.e. green tea extract (GTE), possess high antioxidative and anti-inflammatory capacity, thus being protective in various models of acute inflammation. However, their anti-inflammatory effect and a feasible mechanism in haemorrhage/resuscitation (H/R)-induced liver injury remain unknown. We investigated the effects of GTE and the role of NF-κB in the pathogenesis of liver inj...
